Looking Back on Junior Year

The end of junior year is one week away, and I am in denial. It was a year full of up’s and down’s, smiles and tears, good times and bad. Here are the five most important lessons I take away from my third year of college:
1. There are people there for you. You don’t have to be a martyr or worried that you are going to bother someone by asking for their help. If you need someone to talk to, shoot a text, and 9/10 someone will be there.
2. Don’t give up on what you love. I found myself dropping out of my dance team and dancing less in general because I was overwhelmed with school work. It affected my happiness- I should have balanced both.
3. You have ONE more year. That night you are debating going out with friends? Just go. You’ll regret it once you are out of Chapel Hill and not in a place so easily accessible to all of your best friends.
4. Stop procrastinating. Once you get assigned something- do it in the next five days. It will be worth it. When you procrastinate, something always is compensated for it. Maybe you end up missing hanging out with friends, do worse on another assignment, miss class, etc. Just knock it out and quit worrying about it.
5. Fix loose ends. If you have a falling out with someone, if you weren’t as nice to someone as you could have been, or if you have lost touch with a former close friend, fix it. You’ll sleep better at night.
