The Carolina Outdoor Recreation Center is a business on UNC Chapel Hill's campus offering a variety of outdoor activities ranging from zip line trips, hiking, canoeing, camping, expeditions to the Appalachian Mountains, and more. Group bonding trips are also offered to businesses in the Triangle area. Campus wide recognition of this opportunity for students was very low, and thus my group launched a re-branding campaign, "Branch Out," to increase student and business awareness, profit, and social media and web presence. The entire re-branding plan, including media kits, logo creation, promotional videos, and more can be found here:

Ticket Services Coordinator at Carolina Performing Arts

Carolina Performing Arts is located on UNC Chapel Hill's campus. CPA brings world-class performers from around the globe to it's stage, hence their slogan, "The world comes here." Our vision is to be recognized globally as a top presenter and leader in integrating arts into the academy. I help manage the ticket sales box office that generates millions of dollars of revenue, handle large-scale donations, lead staff meetings of over 20 coworkers, and train/hire new employees. I make the schedule for all box office employees and handle any employee conflicts. I manage the performances by selling tickets, handling customer requests, and overseeing the actions of sales associates.

Staff Writer for The Daily Tar Heel

The Daily Tar Heel is one of the most well-known college newspapers in the country, winning numerous Associated Collegiate Press Pacemakers and SPJ Mark of Excellence awards. We have been recognized for four straight years as having the most outstanding business and advertising staff in the country. In 2011 it became the first collegiate newspaper in the state to be recognized against its commercial peers by winning a 2nd place general excellence award in its N.C. Press Association division. I was a staff writer for the DTH, writing 1-2 articles per week related to campus news and events. I have covered the election of new student government members, discussions led by Chancellor Folt as a result of sexual assault charges on campus, a student-led waste-free initiative, and more. I found my own interview sources, conducted interviews, and composed the articles, all the while paying close attention to and acting timely toward breaking stories and deadlines.

Social media Intern for Carolina Campus Community Garden

I was the social media intern for Carolina Campus Community Garden, a non-profit that provides fresh, sustainably grown produce for low-wage UNC houseworkers. I managed the Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages for the organization, as well as the website. I wrote articles for the website, increased the Facebook user engagement by 200%, planned events, and volunteered weekly at the garden.

Summer Intern at Carteret County News-Times

I worked closely with the Society Desk Editor for the Carteret County News-Times, located in Morehead City, N.C. The News-Times covers several counties in Eastern North Carolina. I wrote published press releases for events in the area and updated the events calendar included in every issue. I conducted interviews for the Society Desk Editor. I also traveled to photograph events with accompanied self-created cut-lines.

This past summer, I interned at NBCUniversal in the famous Rockefeller Center. The peacock-floor elevators or the glimpses of celebrities in the hallways weren’t even the best part. I was Sprout’s social media intern during their rebranding period from Sprout to Universal Kids. I created content daily for Sprout’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I ideated and maintained the social content calendars and composed GIFs and other videos for content using Adobe Creative Suites. I also tracked the reach of Sprout’s social platforms as compared to our competitors through ListenFirst technology. I worked closely with the Social Media Manager during a busy, important time for Sprout, and was able to take initiative with brand content. My experience at Sprout allowed me to gain first-hand knowledge on what it takes to plan social posts while also acting quickly on unexpected trends. I love the challenge of increasing social reach and I understand the importance of tracking what other companies are doing in the social e-world.
