I am one of those people who truly enjoy reading for fun. I am always looking for great book recommendations and like to peruse through the Barnes and Nobles bestseller lists.
I’d like to give my top four book recommendations- these are books that affected me in some way. These are what I like to call “good for the soul” books.
1. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanthi- This tells the story of a neurosurgeon who gets diagnosed with cancer. He gives a heartfelt look into the world of medicine in regards to life and death. I DARE you to not cry when you read this book.

2. Fun Home by Alison Bechdel- This graphic novel depicts the life of a homosexual feminist growing up in a family who owns a funeral home. She has a strained relationship with her dad who commits suicide. This book is dark and addictive. It raises important questions about sexuality, familial relationships, and the fostering of creativity post-trauma.

3. Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh- This book is written by a spiritual leader trying to help people fall back on their true beings in a world that tries to lead one away from him/herself. It includes exercises to help people with being present in their daily lives. In today’s fast-pace world, everyone should take the time to read this book and implement the practices. If you commit yourself to it, it will change your life.

4. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert- This tells the story of a woman who divorces her husband and travels to Italy to eat, India to pray, and Indonesia to fall in love. This story will inspire a desire to travel, make anyone feel young again, and provoke an analysis of one’s own happiness.
