Hello all! My name is Allie Mobley and I am a junior attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Admittedly, I am being tasked in my “Branding of Me” course with writing two blogs per week. I was immediately diffident with this task…who cares what I have to say? However, I am going to seize this opportunity to allow whomever is out there in the vast LinkedIn world to get to know more about me and what I find interesting.
Back in 1996… I was born in good ole Raleigh, North Cackalacky. From the time I was born to the time I graduated high school, I was raised on a farm in the outskirts of Wake Forest, NC. It took a good 20 minutes to arrive at a grocery store, to give you an idea. 50+ acres of fields right outside my door. It wasn’t a working farm, but my mom’s brother right down the street owned a farm complete with pigs, horses, cows, and all of the like. My parents chose to use the space in a different way. My dad, who has raced dirt bikes since he was young, hand-built a complex dirt bike track and trail throughout our land. I spent many Saturdays woken by the “brraaaaaaaap” of dirt bikes from my dad and his buddies. Living on the farm, as we called it, engrained in me a love for nature, space, and woods.
Many high school bonfires later, I was in my senior year debating between attending the University of Manoa in Hawaii, University of Southern California, Wake Forest University, or… the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I may have been swayed to choose the Heels due to it being several of my family member’s alma maters, but I am confident in my decision nonetheless. I won’t dive into the sappy emotions and love I have for Carolina, but I have found a home here to say the least.
I am majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Women and Gender Studies and Social and Economic Justice. On campus, I am very much involved in the dance community. I am a member of Kamikazi Hip Hop Team and teach dance in the Raleigh-Durham area. I am also a member of a professional company based out of Raleigh, Elevate. I am also a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and a staff writer for The Daily Tar Heel.
What do I hope to see in the near future? Well, I am in the process of applying for summer internship positions. Upon graduation, I hope to dip my toes into storytelling-based marketing, or start my on-air reporting work at a local TV station. By the time my career has been well-defined, I hope to branch into the world of documentary and create my own- hopefully one that is a result of many years of traveling, happiness, and inevitable struggle. No matter what I do, I hope to utilize ever-advancing technology to truly help people.
That’s a brief summary of me. I’m sure more elements of myself will come out over the course of these posts, but at least we are cracking the book open.
